Gadget G Radio: Playing Everything Mainstream Doesn't
Hello, my name is KL Merchant and I promote and manage the biggest ever growing radio platform called Gadget G Radio.
What is Gadget G Radio all about?
Gadget G Radio is a brand new music community that has recently been put together by myself, KL Merchant. My vision was to create this impactful platform to support all unsigned and independent creative artists worldwide in getting themselves heard without being judged.
Gadget G Radio is a podcast based media which works to amplify where mainstream refuses. Our aim is to offer an alternative where popular stations ignore and refuse to listen. At Gadget G Radio we listen. We don’t just spin records though or airplay.
We also offer the opportunity to gain some music promotion through our blog press, which includes artist interviews and poster design work.
Each artist is assigned their own Music Publicity Officer to help take on the promotional tasks of the artist.
The name Gadget G derives from a hobby of mine involving technology, the type that is a novelty to many, anything unusual I quite enjoy such as mini desk jukeboxes or mini cola can shaped music players; anything quite innovative! So the idea for the name originated from our every day use of creative technology. Gadget Geek Radio is the full term, now I understand fully that you don’t have to be labelled a geek to enjoy your gadgets, it is merely the interactive mascot myself that the name is referring to; I’m your Gadget Geek music playing machine.
How does Gadget G get their message across?
We pride ourselves on being the undercover heroes in the music scene — the gadget playing machine everybody can tune into. We do not agree with how mainstream media goes - they promote too much, talk a good deal but never deliver and that is where we do deliver. Together we go above and beyond, spending time networking with music influencers, marketing, designing promotional material and building sustained solid partnerships. It's important to establish a positive driven and supportive working environment in the music industry. We are all on the same team – trying to reach a majority of listeners and music professionals worldwide with a unique diverse platform that does not conform to the conventional.
Unlike the mainstream world where people feel pressured to act and look a certain way in order to be recognised for their talents, we work to achieve a community where it is more about the creator’s hard work and personal accomplishments to come and get in the spotlight on Gadget G Radio, the freedom to share their own story in the way that they want to be seen rather than in the way society tries to constraint.
We are unconventional in many ways; we encourage musicians and other creatives to be themselves, think outside of the box and to shine for their own individual abilities.
Gadget G Features insight. At Gadget G Radio, we don't just play your music - we are a much bigger community. We thrive to get you seen across various media channels and platforms and to achieve this, I will assign you with one of our Radio team promotional press officers to help take on all of your music promoting needs. You will gain our complete support, and some helpful tips along the way which include guidance towards the notion of how to break into the industry and how to get your own personal brand noticed. Additional services include: graphic design features, blog press interviews/live radio, video production, author press for poets, featured artists week, top ten charters, voting polls, competitions, and loads more media opportunities.
All of our professionals and relative music business influencers are here on hand to help in whatever work you require.
Previously, we started a radio platform and named it Speakerz City, it got right to the point with the name but it wasn’t touching base in its concept with our listeners, so I took a break from the big picture for a while. It wasn’t until I had auditioned for Britain's Got Talent as my character Gadget Girl that the idea developed for the radio concept, I remembered my obsession as a kid with computer technology and video games which in turn sparked up this new invention.
What kind of projects do we cover?
Breaking the silence (Silent Voices) which is a creative writing based project tackling life with depression - we also encourage contemporary artists and musicians to create things specifically for the impact regarding support for themselves and others through a therapeutic weekly group on twitter.
Gadget G Radio works alongside over 50 different artists and music industry professionals across the world, to help with our technical needs such as voice actors for our radio commercials and music reviews. We have also teamed up with Jason Page, the proud creator of the game music compositions in the famous Gran Turismo franchise for Playstation back in the early 90’s, he helps us with the soundtracks and radio jingles.
Leone Mink is our Media Press Assistant, she has been with us since the start up in January this year - I took it upon myself to train her up in Graphic Design and industry advice coaching, so that she can provide specialist support to our future music heroes.
We have numerous bands and artists presenting their own shows with us on a weekly schedule; Mondays we feature Kristin Whispers Sonnets by an amazing soft spoken profound poet we network with regularly on Twitter, Kristin Garth (an author of many books) reads out some excerpts from her latest books The Meadow, Crow Carriage and Gardenia with such powerful emotion each week.
On Tuesdays we feature Don Johns Radio which is presented by the wonderful artist Don John who writes and produces beautiful Jazz, Rock and Country blues kind of music.
On Wednesdays we feature our top 10 music playlists along with Big Step Up Tunes latest submissions mix - a chance to get the up and coming artists heard and gain new followers. Along with this we do feature a showcase called The WordStarz which enables spoken word poets from all angles to come and share their latest performances.
On Thursday, we feature Jack on the Rock Show - which is presented by Jakob, from the band Indie Butterflies Dream. He features all of their latest music releases along with a mix of their network list of other potential upcoming artists.
On Friday, we feature The Megatronic Show presented by an electronic ebm music producer that goes by the name of Megatron (not the tron from The Transformers although he sure is a huge fan!).
We are still open for more shows to fill the Saturday and Sunday slots.
By providing this opportunity for artists to showcase with us, it is giving them extra exposure for their creativity. Another valuable way to build a fan base of worthy listenership across the universe.
Upcoming we have a show featuring a very talented gentleman that goes by the artist name GCM Audio - he composes techno music that mirrors futuristic matrix sounds just like those in the film itself, the ambience really sparks up the logical aspects of the mind, sending it into overdrive and the vision of cyber lives.
Gadget G Radio is within that notion of doing it for ourselves; one thing we have learned about the waiting game for the spotlight in mainstream is that we’ll be old and grey by the time we would get our names up in lights. By building our own way not only sparks independence but it gives us a whole new zest of life and stops our mind shifting towards what we think we need rather than what we actually would benefit from.
Being independent puts you in a much better position, you have full control over your content and do not have to compromise in order to suit the middle man in those music labels and losing a substantial amount of their musical earnings.
Our analytics has reported that since the start of this year we’ve collected 75 active listeners and counting, 15k plays along with a substantial geographical reach across 25 countries. We are very proud on how effective Gadget G Radio is becoming and, to top it off, we’ve now registered our podcast with I-Heart Radio, Spotify, Breaker, Pandora, tuneIn, TuneCore, Radio Public, Deezer, Stitcher, and various world wide web radio directories.
We regularly run two big radio blog magazines - Official Gadget G Press and The Wolf Feeds Poetry which both cater to various creative endeavours.
It is about reaching a diverse crowd and bringing them together to indulge the love for all things we enjoy every day.
