'Music Is A Tool'

Music should be selected properly whenever you listen to it. It’s not that you need to invest several minutes picking a song every time you fancy a tune, but a little touch of feeling into it would make the experience more enjoyable.

I just came to notice a while ago, whilst I was listening to Spotify after having a spliff, how the task I'm doing will affect my song choice. I'll try to search in my head what style of music is best for it and will make me dive right into the task. If I'm going to take a shower, I'll think about how the drops will feel on my body which rhythm will make them flow and fly as if they were born for it. I rack my brains to make the best soundtrack for that moment – often not ending in success.

But isn't it mad to think you don't always like the same music; even if you've listened before and liked it in that moment. It all depends on circumstances. It depends on how you're feeling and where you are feeling it. It's as simple as listening to sad music when you are sad. What type of sad? Maybe, somehow, when listening to music, what you long for is a moment that tackles your whole body and soul - either good or bad. You want to feel the music deep; you don't want to leave it half done.

And that's the power of music; it blends into your atmosphere and brings you to a place sometimes unknown - when you haven't even moved from your bed. Your room might become a jungle under the sound of Boozoo Bajou, or you might suddenly be on an empty train leading somewhere with beautiful views - just by closing your eyes. It takes you upwards as it brings you downwards; sometimes you decide and sometimes the music surprises you and, out of nowhere, this intangible force lifts you towards the sky before dropping its beats on you. It becomes pure medicine when used right and, other times, torture.

You will always turn to music if you want to change your feelings at a specific moment or want to intensify them. Or maybe you're looking to stop the noise in your head and want to drift somewhere nice where your problems get temporally drowned by the touch of sound waves in your eardrums. It eases the hurting in yourself, covering it with a plaster of notes.

After all, music is a tool. You’ve got to learn how to use it properly to get the most out of it.
