5 Movies Not To Watch During A Pandemic

Sometimes, in life it’s best to just state the obvious; we live in a pandemic mock-post-apocalypse and the last thing we should be doing is subjecting ourselves to even more stress and depressing moments - or fear ridden ones! So, to save you the hassle I made my list of ‘do’s’ and ‘don’ts’ - have a look at these five movies not to watch and you can thank me later.

Grab the popcorn guys you are in for the ride of your lives!

Today, the Everyday Magazine has selected for you the 5 Movies to avoid during Covid and you know what? These aren’t the only ones, but it’s a good start. Get pen and paper ready and why not sit down and expand the list yourselves?

Please don’t be tempted to watch these. Did you know the ONS states that the increase in depression and anxiety rates in adults in the UK shot up by 19.2% based on June 2020 statistics. The last thing anyone needs is to spend relaxing time in front of the TV only to be frightened out of their wits and walk away even more tense. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

1. Contagion

As if this one needed an introduction, it’s an obvious one so just do not watch this. And catch this - no pun intended - even the star Kate Winslet was reported to have told her family and friends not to watch this movie, the Novel virus being based on the inspiration of the SARS epidemic.

2. Outbreak

Do you see the trend here? Another obvious one not to watch. The most deadly Motaba virus was based on the very real fear of a time in 1995 that the Ebola virus would spread.

3. 12 Monkeys

Actually, this one doesn’t say it in the name like the other two obvious choices, so you would be ever so slightly forgiven if you thought you would watch it. Well, don’t. This movie, starring Bruce Willis and Brad Pitt, though based on time-travel, represents the very real Plague virus which was estimated to have killed 25 million people back in the 1340s, the most horrific pandemic in the history of mankind.

4. Safe

I am throwing in a curveball here, as I am competing with many other articles online that have top 10 or 20 movies not to watch and they state some of the more well-known movies. Again, this one is fairly obvious where, to keep society safe, a housewife, played by Julianna Moore, is put in quarantine when she comes down with a strange virus. At a time when we are all in isolation right now, it’s safe to say - again no pun intended - don’t watch this.

5. It Comes At Night

Horror is horror so if you don’t want to walk away from your TV feeling tense and scared just do not watch any movies in the horror genre! This one I would say is the worst among them as it deals with a deadly virus sweeping the planet, families in strict isolation - reminds you of anything? - and the devastation human fear can bring. Nothing comes out good in this movie, least of all the ending.

Phew - I am glad that is all over, I felt tense even thinking about these chilling movies!

There are plenty of other movies out there I would recommend you don’t watch. As an overall recommendation, if I were to pick a genre to steer clear of at this time it would be horror and psychological thriller. Nobody wants to be shaking in their seats right now. For horror-lovers that sounds unfair, so I would say if you really want to watch a horror movie try sci-fi horror where at least what you see doesn’t hit home so badly! We can all tell the difference between fake and real, so maybe steer clear from the very realistic movies.

Another genre I would recommend putting on pause for the moment are the array of Zombie movies - 28 Days Later, World War Z, Dawn of the Dead, and one of the worst ones, Pandemic.

On that note, I hope you enjoyed the list, don’t forget to suggest your own and make a list to keep you away and safe from tension and fear-ridden entertainment. Meanwhile, if you are suffering from depression, anxiety, or other problems while in isolation consider to seek advice. Here is a helpful link from our NHS:

Maria Nicolette is Risk Officer in the LGPS, and a “constant contradiction”, she won’t hide her taste for ‘prestige’, is proud to announce everywhere she goes her achievements ‘graduating with MSc Management from Cass Business School’ or ‘worked at Coutts Private banking and in KPMG as an intern”. She loves luxury and fashion, and loves her mum too - who works in Harrods and buys her the best designer clothes! She seems a snob, but really a life of hard hits has grounded her, with a disability she strives to live according to her values; fairness, equality, helping others, female empowerment, disability inclusion. She enjoys giving back, she volunteers at the Brain Injury Hub as PR assistant writing articles for the ‘news’ section. She loves art and culture; she volunteers for Camden Arts Centre and spends a lot of money investing in street art and a lot of her spare time visiting galleries and museums. She is the dark horse in her family and a bit of an entertainer; she worked as a feature film extra for Mission Impossible 5, has taken part in the NHS 111 video, has done modelling for four years, and been amateur singing with her friend’s band. She loves graphic novels and would love to write her own in collaboration with an illustrator (apply within) – and is a bit of a goth and a geek, she isn’t impartial to some MMO gaming, loves fantasy fiction and sci-fi, and has cosplayed as Abigail Whistler.
