Alicia Arslanian
A Human Interaction
A bird screaks, a small dog barks back:
woof, woof, vogh, vogh, haf, haf, bow, bow, blub, blub.
The language doesn’t matter, for she could
not understand him as he bit into
her words with his teeth, ignoring her sweet
bird song that she cries over and over
it is perfected, but together they
are void of harmony, so the two whine
over and over. As she stays close to
her empty nest, the dog marches on close
to his owner. She reattaches his
short lead. The silence is resumed once more.
A conversation for the bilingual,
a calling lost to the monolingual.
