That Infamous TikTok Pasta: Is It Worth The Hype?

In the last few weeks, TikTok had gone mad for the feta/ tomato pasta - one woman claiming when she shared it that Finland ‘ran out of feta!’ because everyone wanted to try it. Being the true foodie here that I am, I have sacrificially tried and tested this recipe for you, and I’m here with my review.

Ingredients

  • 2 punnets of tomatoes, I chose baby cherry and a mixed pack of yellow/orange/red ones for extra sweetness.

  • 1 block of feta

  • Olive oil

  • Salt and Pepper

  • Mixed Herbs

  • Fresh Basil

  • Crushed garlic

  • ½ a pack of pasta, I chose Conchiglie because it holds the sauce nicely

Method

The easiest way to find the recipe is to just google it, and the videos will pop up very quickly, but I’ll quickly explain the process for you. All you have to do is:

  1. Pop the tomatoes in an ovenproof dish, drizzle with olive oil, salt, pepper and mixed herbs.

  2. Put the block of feta cheese on top, drizzle a tiny bit more oil over the top, and ake in the oven at 200 for around half an hour.

  3. Whilst the tomatoes are cooking, put the pasta on to boil and drain once it’s ready. When the tomato/ feta mix has cooked, use a fork to break up the feta. It will quickly turn into a soft mixture and combine it with the tomato juices until the whole thing is a smooth texture.

  4. Add the crushed garlic and fresh basil, pour in the drained pasta, give it a good mix and serve!

Now, this dish has all the elements to be a new favourite dish for me. I love basil, feta, tomatoes, and who doesn’t love pasta?! However, there is just something I don’t love about it. I don’t quite get the hype!

I have made it a couple of times and have eaten it both hot and cold, more or less feta and tasted different versions back to back (that is dedication for you…!) Overall I don’t think it’s awful, but it is very ‘feta-y’ with a whole block in there it becomes the overriding flavour. I have found the best way to eat it is cold as a lunchtime dish rather than warm from the oven. This dish gets a solid 6.5/10 from me, do better TikTok...
