The Ultimate Xmas Playlist - From Everyone at The Everyday

I took to Facebook and Instagram to ask the contributors and readers of the Everyday Magazine a VERY important question. The first question ever asked, expressed in paints and dyes in the shadows of ancient caves, prayed about in great temples, wrote about on Buzzfeed… what is the BEST Christmas song?

Expect a true mixed bag as people came forward with festive songs, but also songs that bring them back to their most sacred wintery memory. There are some really beautiful tunes on here. I hope you enjoy.

二 by t e l e p a t h テレパシー能力者

“This song reminds me of walking through Bristol the first year I moved here... walking through St Andrews Park whilst the first flakes of snow were falling on a misty morning.”

Fairytale of New York by The Pogues

A true classic - but have you heard about the controversy? Radio 1 censored out some of the more non PC words from this song and got an onslaught of complaints in return. What do you think about it?

The Night Is Young by Moulettes

“The night is young by Moulettes. It will give you fairytale vibes and sounds so pure, meanwhile the lyrics tell a completely different story!”

Christmas Time Is Here by Vince Guaraldi

“Because it is beautiful. Because it's melancholy Because it is cool. Because Charlie Brown.”

Feliz Navidad

“Because it is a banger.” - 2020

White Winter Hymnal by Fleet Foxes

A beautiful song with an equally beautiful video. 10/10 wintery recommendation.

Goodbye England (Covered In Snow) by Laura Marling

The most stunning and peaceful wintery song. A beautiful song for a quiet moment.

Mistletoe by Justin Bieber

Sent in with a message that declared it is ‘the best song in existence’. I’m not here to judge. I just write things.

Stay Another Day by East 17

A song made Christmassy by snow and fur lined coats.

Trim Your Tree by Jerry Butler

An oldie but a goody!

Don’t Let The Bells End by The Darkness

Complete with the most perfect music video of all time.

Little Drummer Boy by Bing Crosby and David Bowie.

“Absolute class.”

Boredom by Tyler the Creator

“Being Muslim and growing up in a house with first generation Sudanese parents, Christmas has never been a motive during my 22 years of existence. Christmas music doesn’t get me gassed, ‘The Holiday’ is peak and I just don’t fuck with pigs in blankets . When I head home from Uni my friends and I are always making up for lost time, but Christmas eve and Christmas Day are actually the biggest L. Everybody’s turning it up with their family and I can’t even spend money to pass time because every shop is closed. So my brother, sister and I just sit at home and watch the movies that are being played on tv back to back, and argue. Baba comes downstairs telling us to shut the fuck up because the novelty of being reunited with all of his children at the same time wore off 3 days in. So I think Tyler captures my Christmas pretty well in this one.”

Can’t Wait For Christmas by The Loose Tapestries

“Idris Elba and Noel Fielding. I don’t need to say anything else.”

Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) by Michael Buble

Never have I felt more powerful as the editor than now - using all my responsibility to make sure that Michael Buble is not missed from the Christmas list. It was a tough choice between Mariah Carey, Step Into Christmas by Elton John and this but I went for it. To me, singing this song with my sister is nothing less than pure shameless, unadulterated Christmas joy.

Whatever you listen to this festive period, have a good one. Sending you love from EVERYONE at THE EVERYDAY. Merry Christmas xx
