Talking To: KaySoul

KaySoul is a House DJ and record producer from Springs in the East Rand of Johannesburg, South Africa.

We asked him a few questions to learn some more about him.

What inspires your music?

My source of inspiration is drawn from the likes of Larry Heard aka Mr. Fingers and I get a lot more inspired when I am around a clique of creatives.

I started my journey in the realms of electronic music in 2010. I got introduced to music production by a friend of mine through Fruity Loops Studio.

Who are some South African artists we should listen to?

Some South African artists you should listen to are ByLwansta, Seba Kaapstad, Zani Sizani, Muzi and Elaine

You've got a single coming out on Feb 14th called 'Change My Mind'. Could you tell us a bit about it and your writing process?

The process behind the song started in March 2018 after I spoke with Zani Sizani, the singer, about us doing a song together. I went into a mini bedroom studio to start producing a beat.

I have always wanted to make music with vocals because I have been making music without words for a very long time.

I used Addictive Keys for the chords and sounds on the song and for the bassline, and a synthesizer called SpectraSonics Trilian Bass.

I felt like it needed a little classic guitar so I contacted a friend of mine from Greece who to put his ideas on the track.

The song came back with guitar and vocals, then I started to work on the arrangement and mixdown.

The whole process was interesting and fun because this collaboration made come out of my comfort zone to try something new and different.

What else can we expect from you in 2020?

In the year 2020 you can simply expect music from me. Nothing much.

Finally what's your favourite track to play in your sets at the moment?

My favorite track to play in my DJ Sets at the moment is "Mall Grab - Can't (Get U Outta Mind)."
