Talking To: Simber

Simber is an Italian lofi, chillhop and downtempo producer. His latest EP Thinking About You is a gorgeous four track collection of chillhop instrumentals. Opening track Immortal instantly sets the mood for the rest of the project with woozy piano over the sound of someone snoring. With a funky bassline second track Listen is more lively but this EP, released on ChillhopGuru, is definitely one for winding down to.

We asked Simber a few questions to learn more about him and his latest EP.

Take us through your setup.

My setup is really simple, I have Krk6 monitors, a scarlett 2i2 interface and a microphone. I use FL studio as my DAW and occasionally Logic Pro  X.

On this EP I've used a lot of plugins. Synth-wise I love Omnisphere, Kontact, Sq8l and Tyrell N6. To get vintage effects I also use RC-20 Retrocolor and Izotope Vinyl.

What’s the Italian Hip-Hop scene like? Can you recommend some Italian artists to check out?

Unlike in America, in Italy chillhop, lofi and other genres like it aren't mainstream. I hope that this will change and this kind of music will become more popular.

As for Italian artists I would recommend some rappers like Fabri Fibra and Salmo, I think their beats are awesome!

What’s the biggest inspiration behind your music?

My inspiration is completely intuitive. When I'm producing music I'm actually expressing my feelings and inner sensations. My EP "Thinking About You" is a way to put my feelings on the surface, since my passion is entirely connected to feelings.

I love the artwork of ‘Thinking About You’, what’s the story behind that?

"Thinking About You" is a four track EP: Immortal, Relax, Listen & Thinking About You. It's in all stores with support from the Chillhop Guru label and music blog. This artwork fit with the aesthetic and vibe of the tracks. I told the Chillhop Guru manager to do something fresh and different and I think it's a great result!

Are you working on any other projects at the moment?

I started working this summer on Stereofox Music Blog & Label. I'm very happy about that because it's helping me to discover a lot of new emerging artists and I can help the chillhop/lofi community grow. It's really great to intertwine work with my passion.

Finally, what music are you listening to at the moment?

I really love FJK, Anomalie stuffs, Swindail and Gorillaz. I'm also a big fan of Madeon and Porter Robinson and genres similar to that. All the music I listen too inspires the music I create and helps shape my style.
